Hey Moses, how are you? Well I hope. Yes perhaps you are right. This was an incredible gift and only one of about three images I was happy with. Just did not feel well enough to do much. On the mend though and heading back out in about a week.

Hey Marc: Sorry we missed each other again! We must rectify this on your next trip. Thanks, and yes I am finally on the mend with a different antibiotic. I will be back in the canyon at the end of next week. So more to come on that front.

Hope you are feeling better Bob! At least you were able to catch this beautiful shot! I think it's the canyon's way of saying "sorry this happened, please come back again".

Hi Anders; I can see where that might seem confusing. Essentially a Reverse Split Neutral Density concentrates the darker portions of the filter in the middle and fades it towards the top which is the opposite of a standard Split Neutral Density. There are occasions where you can have an horizon line that is several stops brighter than the clouds above-think of a heavy cloud cover with an open horizon line. In situations like this the heavy cloud cover and the foreground can be relatively close in exposure value and the horizon 3 to 4 stops brighter. The Reverse Grad is designed to solve this condition. Hope this helps explain it. Give me a shout back if you have more questions. Thanks for the question and stopping by.

Hi, Just seen this post as I am researching ND and GND filters... and that is one great picure.

Questions I have is, you say you have a reverse GND in your bag... My initial thinking to them is that, can't one just insert the standard GND upside down and align the dark edge with horizon and leave bottom of image uncovered. Or is my brain doing some fundamental error in thinking that..

Thanks again

Thanks Alec. I have been really running our simplicity discussion through my head since our return. I have quite a few "messy" ones that I will just sit on for a bit. This I really do like and also the "The Thin Line of Light" from the previous post. I want a trip back as well. What is it about that place? So much there. GC should be fun. Looking forward to some canyon work and photography and a little shooting with Tony Kuyper.

Thanks so much Nick! I have processed this image twice adding some more subtle maneuvers to increase contrast and color tone. This version, over the G+ version I like better. Hope you guys are well.

Super gorgeous image, Robert. I really like the subtle post production. It was messy all around that location and I think you found about as good a spot for that moment as there was. That area was challenging to shoot. I want to go back. It was challenging to find the right balance of strong foreground, calm middle ground, and over the top sky. Good luck in the GC this week.
